It's B.S. One line from Thessalonians does not make a theology.
It's also business. Think of all those Left Behind books or this twit and his media attention garnered. It's like the drunk frat boy at a show long ago. Entitled. Jeez.

edit- of course if I start floating up into the sky .....

Charity Auction - Jerry Garcia’s Guitar, Lucky #13 - Bid high and know that you are making a difference!

This is an authentic Alembic guitar, serial #72-13. Custom made for Jerry Garcia in 1972 by the guitar building masters: Doug Irwin, Ron Wickersham, Rick Turner, and Frank Fuller. The guitar was stored in Bob Weir’s studio, Ace’s, from 1972 until 1998. Perhaps the guitar was used on Bobby Weir’s Ace album and may have been used on a Jerry Garcia solo project according to a signed letter of authentication by Bob Weir.

Together, with Jerry Garcia’s Lucky #13 guitar, you will also get his blonde Fender Harvard guitar amp (one 10” speaker) from the early 1950’s.

"Nearly 100% of the proceeds received from the auction of this rare one of a kind guitar will provide educational opportunities and assistance to hill tribe refugees along the Thai/Burmese border and to underprivileged Thai communities via Matthew Kelly, President of Amicus Foundation of Thailand."

Mother Nature is the personification of nature that focuses on the life-giving and nurturing aspects of nature. Listen to Bear's interview with David Gans. Owsley embodied Mother Nature in the form of the Grateful Dead's sound.

I usually find it quite lame when Jesus comes up in the forum, if only because the discussion inevitably wanders down the same old political fault lines. Everyone always seems to find that Jesus is conveniently in line with their own political and moral compasses.

No fault lines here. Too conservative for liberal churches, too liberal for conservative churches. And just taking the Q (Jesus direct quotes) as the foundation of faith. The walk ought to constantly challenge any bias you describe or your just spiritually masturbating. None of us has done that before.

As a whole Christianity is becoming much more African and Chinese, as it sadly dies in the West. I hope for a Fourth Great Awaking before we are hoisted on are arrogantly intellectual petard.

Then I urge you to destroy such constructs in your mind. They may appear to exist, but it's just an illusion. Which is greater, our common humanity or 'fault lines'. Placing groups in boxes leads to an ugly place.

And skuzzle, I value what you contribute here. I have no desire for this conversation to tar either one of us.

Amen Brothers,
Greed in the name of God - the only thing that really pissed Jesus off. How often righteousness & SELFrighteousness get confused...

& lest we all forget: "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"
Mich 6:8

or, as Gerrit Graham said (in '2 Djinn')

"We all saw good luck on the other side
The door blew shut, but here's the deal
Dreams are lies, it's the dreaming that's real"

PS: http://www.archive.org/details/gd1995-05-29.fob.schoeps.unknown.larson.34270.flac16
"Reviewer: moscowocom -
Subject: True now as ever
At the end of "crowd" before the encore, Bobby says, "Did I hear someone say 'fuck the christian right?'"

I was at the show and remember that classic line. I hadn't ever heard one of the Dead say something so confrontational, yet completely understandable.

14 years later, look what the christian right has done to our country, and our world!

Jesus was a hippy, for Christ's sake! I think I've seen him walking the parking lot at a show before! The christian right needs to get a grip on reality, and compassion, before they'll ever resemble JC."

What is the "Christian Right"? Those that are overly legalistic? Those that import 21st century cultural norms and fold that into the Gospels?
The Great Commission speaks a universal message; man and woman, black and white and brown, ect., this place and that.
All stand equally before God, and one is not greater then another.

edit- And I can easily see Jesus handing out with hippies. He always liked a party.

To clarify
I'm a Christian! & Happy for Christ, who as the example, shows us the Way. But sad for us in the US who act as if 'an eye for an eye' trumps 'turn the other cheek,' who claim Christ's name, but don't' realize that SIN = SELFISHNESS.

I guess that it appears to me that the "Christian Right" is neither Christ-like nor correct. I'm with Gandhi, who said, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

Before that post I had just read an article that brought me to literal tears: http://www.harpers.org/archive/2005/08/0080695 "The Christian paradox: How a faithful nation gets Jesus wrong." This article talks of how much time & effort is wasted on the Rapture nonsense

BTW, please pardon me (& Bobby) if offense was taken.

If your brother or sister goes astray you are commanded to help them, Jack. Jesus didn't say this person, not that. We didn't make the rules , they are just there.

I've been in every black hole
At the altar of the dark star
My body's now a begging bowl
That's begging to get back, begging to get back
To my heart
To the rhythm of my soul
To the rhythm of my unconsciousness
To the rhythm that yearns
To be released from control

I was punching in the numbers at the ATM machine
I could see in the reflection
A face staring back at me
At the moment of surrender
Of vision over visibility
I did not notice the passers-by
And they did not notice me

I was speeding on the subway
Through the stations of the cross
Every eye looking every other way
Counting down 'til the Pentecost

fuckin' drunken irishmen....
